CalArts Animation History Project

Hello! I’m Sumin, a recent graduate of the Character Animation program at CalArts. Having a campus job at the Film/Video office archiving old material got me interested in the past of the Animation program, and made me realize not much documented! Since then, I’ve been collecting material and gathering interviews from alums.

The video below was for the 2024 Character Animation Open Show. It’s about some history of CalArts, and was meant to double as a fun fact video and a bathroom break from the 8-hour-long show.

Ideally, the final version of this project would be a collage of people sharing their stories, specifically about the two animation programs, rather than a Youtube click-bait style format like below.
